Over the years that the award has been given, the categories presented have changed; currently Oscars are given in more than a dozen categories, and include films of various types. As one of the most prominent award ceremonies in the world, the Academy Awards ceremony is televised live in more than 100 countries annually. It is also the oldest award ceremony in the media; its equivalents, the Grammy Awards (for music), the Emmy Awards (for television), and the Tony Awards (for theater), are modeled after the Academy Awards. The 84th Academy Awards were held at the Dolby Theatre on February 26, 2012; the 85th Academy Awards are scheduled to be held on February 24, 2013, in the same venue.
For the 85th Academy Awards, it was highly suspected that Adele would receive a nomination for Best Original Song for her song "Skyfall". On January 10, 2013, when the nominees were officially announced, it was revealed that Adele had indeed received a pending nomination for the award. The show included a special tribute to the James Bond franchise; Adele took part in it, although her performance took place after a video tribute to the music of James Bond and Shirley Bassey's performance of "Skyfall". The performance was met with hugely positive reviews and was deemed her comeback to the music industry following her pregnancy in 2012. Adele battled "crippling nerves" for the performance and had sought out various methods for avoiding vomiting and other actions relating to her nervousness; this includes going to a hypnotherapist and seeking help from other celebrities, including Elton John.
Following the performance, Adele and Paul Epworth won the award for Best Original Song; this was the first Bond theme ever to take home an Oscar.
