"Need Your Love So Bad"
Need Your Love So Bad single cover
Song by Little Willie John
Length
2:14
Writer(s)
Mertis John Jr.

"Need Your Love So Bad" is a blues song first published in 1955 and written by Mertis John Jr. The first recording of the song was by Mertis John's younger brother Little Willie John and was released by King Records.

It was covered by Paul Weller and Adele for a special 6 Music session at the BBC studios at Maida Vale. It was performed along with their duet of Weller's song "You Do Something to Me" and Adele's single "Chasing Pavements."

BackgroundEdit

Weller discussed why the track had been chosen for them to perform:

It was Adele’s idea, which was a very good choice as well. It’s an old blues tune, which most people probably know from Fleetwood Mac, but I think it goes beyond that.

Adele had further gone into detail on why the song was chosen, saying:

Initially I chose 'I'm Gonna Make You Love Me' by Diana Ross and The Supremes with The Temptations. I hadn’t really heard it for a good couple of years and I got home from Amsterdam and thought, ‘Oh God, that Temptations part is too high, I don’t think Paul will be able to sing it. And then Diana Ross comes in. You know how there’s certain artists that can get away with talking on the song, saying like, ‘Hey Baby.' I’m not one of them.

LyricsEdit

Need someone's hand
to lead me through the night.
Need someone's arms
to hold and squeeze me tight.
'Cause when the night begins,
I'm at an end,
because I need your love so bad.

Need some lips
to feel next to mine.
Need someone to stand up
and tell me when I'm lyin'.
When the lights are low,
and it's time to go,
that's when I need your love so bad.

Why don't you give it up,
bring it on home to me,
or write it on a piece of paper, darlin',
so it can be read to me.
Tell me that you love me
and stop driving me mad,
because I, I need your love so bad.

Need your soft voice,
talk to me at night.
Don't want you to worry baby,
'cause I know we can make everything allright.
Listen to my plea baby,
bring it home to me,
because I need your love so bad.

Why don't you give it up,
bring it on home to me,
or write it on a piece of paper, darlin',
so it can be read to me.
Tell me that you love me
and stop driving me mad,
beacause I, I need your love so bad.

Need your soft voice,
talk to me at night.
Don't want you to worry baby,
'cause I know we can make everything allright.
Listen to my plea baby,
bring it home to me,
because I need your love so bad.
