After much speculation, it is highly rumored that Adele will indeed perform at the Oscars on February 24th, 2013... or at least attend the awards. After being out of the public eye for a good porion of 2012 due to her pregnancy and relationship with Simon Konecki, we haven't had much of Adele lately, but she may finally be making a comeback for the Oscars. Her theme, "Skyfall" (from the James Bond film of the same name), is almost guaranteed to be nominated for an award in music at the Awards Show; many people even suspect that the song is already a shoo-in for any award it is nominated for.
Adele is supposedly scheduled to perform "Skyfall" in a special James Bond tribute segment during the award show. The segment will celebrate fifty years of Bond films. Adele, while rumored to be performing at this award show, has also been offered a performance at the Golden Globes; performers are allowed only one performance at one of the two shows. They cannot do both.
There is no guarantee, though, that Adele will perform or even be present at the 2013 Grammy Awards this year, scheduled to take place exactly two weeks before the Academy Awards. Adele, who made her comeback to the music business at the Grammys last year following a vocal hemorrhage, was nominated for one award this year after winning all six nominated for last year. A live performance of "Set Fire to the Rain" received a pending nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance. Her song "Someone Like You" became the first recipient of that award last year. She is up against the likes of Rihanna, Katy Perry, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Kelly Clarkson and is considered a shoo-in for the award by many. Others have stated that she may have some tough competition in Kelly Clarkson, who has previously won similar awards for pop vocals.
In other news, Daniel Craig (star of Skyfall, who is slated to appear in at least two more Bond films), has stated that he wants Adele to perform the theme song for the next Bond film as well. The next film, currently given the working title "Bond 24", is scheduled for a 2014 release, and it is rumored that Bond 24 and 25 will be released as one film separated into two parts (similar to the last Harry Potter and Twilight films), which could mean two more Bond songs for Adele! Nothing is official yet, though.
In the meantime, let's keep praying that Adele makes her comeback at the Oscars and/or Grammys. Who knows? Adele may even bring her newborn son to the awards! We'll keep you updated as more details become available.
