Background and composition

Adele has said that "Melt My Heart to Stone" is her favorite song on the record, stating that: "I just love it. When I wrote it, I was crying. The song is about breaking up a relationship." She explained to The Guardian's 1000 Songs Everyone Must Hear that "Melt My Heart to Stone" is "quite a sad song, it's about giving everything for someone, which is what love is all about."

She further noted that "all the words [in the song] came out in one take, as I was singing it."

"Melt My Heart to Stone" was written in the key of G Major.

Music video

"Melt My Heart to Stone" is the only non-single release by Adele to receive an official music video. The song's promotional video was filmed during Adele's gig at St. Barnabas Chapel in Soho, London in November of 2007. It was released exclusively on iTunes.
